Citania of Briteiros

The Citania of Briteiros is an archaeological site of the Iron Age located in the parish of Salvador de Briteiros, in the municipality of Guimarães. Its ruins were discovered in 1875 by the archaeologist Martins Sarmento.

It shows the characteristics present in the culture of the north-eastern castros of the Iberian Peninsula: an elevated site with Celtic cultural features and walled. It remained occupied during the time of the Roman invasion and is believed to have been definitely abandoned in the second century.

The influence of the Romanization of this population, in the first century BC, is evidenced in numerous vestiges, such as Latin inscriptions, coins of the Republic and Empire, imported ceramic fragments (terra sigillata), glass and others.

It has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.

Casa de São Vicente de Cima is inserted in the Quinta de São Vicente. It is a typical Minho house, with private pool, situated in the Geraz do Minho valley, in the district of Póvoa de Lanhoso, Braga district, ideally located to visit the Peneda Gerês National Park, Braga, Guimarães and many other places of interest.
