Church of Verim

The church of Santa Maria de Verim, of romanesque style, is in the parish of Verim, in the municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso.

It is thought that the date of construction of this church is situated between the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century. The exterior of the church remains almost primitive and many of its stones still contain the initials of the artists they carved.

The bell tower flanking the church was built in 1797 and the main chapel in 1826.

In this church you can still find some remains of the old Benedictine monastery, like the cross next to the baptismal font. The tympanum and eardrums are typically romanesque.

Casa de São Vicente de Cima is inserted in the Quinta de São Vicente. It is a typical Minho house, with private pool, situated in the Geraz do Minho valley, in the district of Póvoa de Lanhoso, Braga district, ideally located to visit the Peneda Gerês National Park, Braga, Guimarães and many other places of interest.
