Travassos Gold Museum

The Travassos Gold Museum was inaugurated on March 3, 2001 and is the result of a process of recovery and dignification of the artisanal work of gold. The Gold Museum project dates back to the 1980s, but took a more active role since 1993.

Since then, it has been promoting a series of activities, such as exhibitions, editions of brochures, guided tours and work with schools in the municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso. The opening to the public of the Gold Museum in Travassos is related to the fact that this parish still has a significant number of artisanal workshops in operation and architectural vestiges of many others.

In addition to musealizing, streamlining the workshops still in operation and collaborating in the recovery of those that are in ruins, the Gold Museum intends to become an active institution at the service of the community that gave rise to it and in it creating a dynamic center of the region and their traditional knowledge, directed to a wide region and to diverse audiences.

The idea of creating a gold museum results from the efforts of a goldsmith - Francisco de Carvalho and Sousa - who, over 50 years of activity, collected assets and documentation.
